Versatile Media Player Hits the Mark for Audio Professionals - Tascam
Unveils New MZ-Series Installation Mixers

Tascam, long known for their versatile recorders and players for the professional integrator and pro audio markets, have introduced their CD-400UDAB media player. Combining a slot-loading CD player, FM/DAB+ tuner, SD/USB player and Bluetooth wireless connectivity, the CD-400UDAB offers audio playback from many sources. A 3.5-mm auxiliary input admits additional audio from external sources such as MP3 players or smartphones and tablet computers without Bluetooth. Morover, the unit can record: from CD or the FM/DAB+ tuner to CD or to USB media.

The CD-400UDAB provides professional-class XLR balanced outputs, RCA unbalanced main outputs, and a second set of RCA unbalanced outputs dedicated to the tuner. A high-quality 6.3-mm stereo headphones output enables quick and easy silent monitoring and confirmation of operation. A two-line backlit LCD displays the settings for easy programming and operation.

The CD-400UDAB can be controlled remotely by RS-232C or the included infrared remote control. An optional Ethernet card (IF-E100) is going to provide control over Ethernet in a future release. Once configured, a panel lock function can disable the front buttons to avoid unauthorized operation or programming. And a power-on play function automatically starts playback as soon as mains power comes up. These features combine to ensure tamper-proof, foolproof, automatic operation.

Tascam have managed to concentrate all of these media sources, recording features, and professional connectivity in a space-saving 1U rack design with an understated black facade. Its combination of form, features, and easy, reliable operation makes the CD-400UDAB a terrific choice for institutions, retail, schools, music venues, restaurants, and many more.

Continuing their long legacy of high-quality professional mixers, Tascam have introduced the new MZ-223 and MZ-372. Both rack-mount analogue mixers offer flexible inputs, mixing, and routing that makes them well suited for installs in small to mid-size venues such as restaurants, hotels, ballrooms, meeting rooms, and schools, as well as residences.

Tascam MZ-223

The compact, 2U rack-mount MZ-223 offers five mixer channels, each with a dedicated Gain potentiometer and two sets of selectable stereo inputs (10 RCA stereo inputs in total), that can be mixed, segregated, and routed to three independent zones or destinations. Channels 1 and 2 can also accommodate phono-level signals for use with a turntable, making this mixer suitable for DJ and residential applications. Two convenient front-panel, balanced XLR inputs handle microphone signals for announcements or moderations, for example.

Each of the MZ-223ís three stereo output zones are equipped with balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA line-level outputs, enabling long cable runs or connection to residential power amplifiers or powered speakers. A slider switches the RCA outputs between 0.75V and 1.5V. The MZ-223 also provides stereo unbalanced master record/monitor outputs, switchable for use with or without microphones, that enable monitoring or recording the main mix to an external device for capturing events. With the MZ-223ís flexible design, for example, you could route music to Zone 1, ambient noise or natural sounds to Zone 2, and a separate music track or a voice announcement to Zone 3. The front panel also includes a 6.3-mm stereo headphones output with level control.

A generous assortment of front-panel volume sliders, routing switches and buttons, EQ knobs, and mute buttons enables simple, fast setup and operation. A Talkover function automatically lowers other source levels when microphones are in use.

Tascam MZ-372

The 3U rack-mount MZ-372 enables audio signals to be mixed, muted, and routed to two redundant outputs or destinations. Each of its six audio channels has an independent volume control and features two selectable stereo sets of unbalanced RCA line-level inputs (12 RCA stero inputs in total) and a selectable balanced XLR mic/line input on the rear panel. Channels 1, 2, and 3 can be switched to accommodate phono-level signals for use with a turntable. And thereís an additional mic-level XLR input located on the front panel.

Each of the MZ-372ís dual outputs offers balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA jacks, enabling long cable runs or connection to a main mixer and monitor mixer, professional power amplifier, or residential power amplifier or powered speaker. A pair of unbalanced RCA Sub/Booth outputs provide an additional feed with independent control for monitoring and can be switched between stereo and mono operation. And there are stereo unbalanced master record/monitor outputs, switchable for use with or without microphones, that enable monitoring or recording the main mix to an external device for capturing events. A Talkover function automatically lowers other source levels when microphones are in use.

Like the MZ-223, the MZ-372 employs front-panel volume sliders, routing switches and buttons, EQ knobs, and mute buttons for simple, fast setup and operation. A 6.3-mm stereo headphones output with level control is also available on the front.
