D.A.S. Audio announces the introduction of a new series of products aimed at the outdoor installation market. The new WR (Weather Resistant) series products offer flexible system configuration as well as two exposure ratings to comply with IP55 and IP56 environmental ratings. These ‘built to order’ products will debut at InfoComm 2012.
D.A.S. will initially offer 3 base models, a dual 6-inch (passive), a 12-inch two-way (passive/biamp) and a 15-inch two-way model (passive/biamp). Each of these models will be offered in two exposure ratings: ‘covered exposure’ (CX) for applications where cabinets are covered or protected, and ‘direct exposure’ (DX) where cabinets are unprotected and directly exposed to the environment. The CX versions are protected with a thick Iso-Flex coating on both the exterior and interior surfaces. The DX versions augment the protection rating by employing a fiberglass exterior and a gel coat sealed interior. Stainless steel fittings and mounting hardware are offered on both versions.
The dual 6-inch loudspeaker (WR-8826) model is equipped with the M-1 driver employing a 1-inch annular diaphragm and an 80º x 80º horn geometry. The WR-8826 is also available in a T version which includes a line transformer. The 12- and 15-inch models use D.A.S. loudspeakers equipped with robust 4-inch voice coils and the M-75 compression driver with 1.5-inch exit and a 3-inch voice coil. The systems integrator can chose between an 80º x 50º or a 60º x 40º horn dispersion pattern. All the speaker components are treated for weather resistance and extended durability in extreme environments.
The WR series enclosures are manufactured using exterior grade plywood. Black or white color options are available in both exposure ratings. The perforated stainless steel protective grilles are painted to match the cabinet finish and are backed with foam over a vapor barrier to impede the entry of water. A barrier strip connector and the passive/active mode selector are protected by a waterproof cover equipped with a sealed cable gland nut.
